The Maldives officially has welcomed Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at a ceremony held at the Republic Square in Male' City.
Prime Minister Hasina was received at the Presidential Jetty by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and was treated to a welcoming performance by Maldivian school students. The Maldivian National Defense Force (MNDF) honoured her with a 21-gun salute and the Maldivian military brass band played the national anthems of both nations. With a guard of honour in position, host dignitaries composed of senior officials from the government of the Maldives including the Vice President Faisal Naseem, and visiting dignitaries comprised of senior representatives from the Government of Bangladesh jointly presented themselves.
Following the welcoming courtesies, Prime Minister Hasina was escorted to the President's Office by a cultural procession, and upon arrival, she signed the visitor's book. At the President's Office, Prime Minister Hasina met with President Solih which was followed by official talks between the two nations. Both leaders then presided over a ceremony to exchange memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and delivered joint press statements.
Following the official visit of Prime Minister Hasina, a special security operation was commenced jointly by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS). In a joint press statement, the security forces requested the public to cooperate and assist in the operation launched to ensure the security and safety of Prime Minister Hasina and her entourage. As part of the operation, a large part of the Green Zone was closed off for 14 hours along with some other roads and parking zones.
The security forces also appreciated the cooperation and assistance provided by the public in any such operation.
