Agro National Corporation (AgroNat) has conducted discussions with the Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll on expanding opportunities for women in the agricultural sector.

During the meeting, members of the WDCs from Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll detailed some of the challenges and difficulties faced by farmers in the two atolls. Discussions were held on facilitating more opportunities for women in the sector, and ways to collaborate together to achieve this through social, economic and commercial projects and programmes.

Furthermore, discussions were also held on extending additional assistance to farmers who are taking part in the contract farming project initiated by AgroNat. The corporation assured the WDC members it would address the concerns raised during the meeting.

AgroNat was established by the government to market agricultural produce from local farms and provide a better income for farmers by providing technical and financial assistance to local farmers and helping them to market their produce. The company has established contracts with farmers from across the country to produce 17 different types of fruits and vegetables.
