Ministry of Tourism has revealed the Maldives has registered a new record of single-day tourist arrivals for the year on December 18.
The tourism ministry revealed 6,955 tourists arrived in the Maldives on December 18, setting the highest single day figure for the year. The ministry noted it is also the highest figure since the reopening of borders in July 2020.
The tourism ministry had earlier revealed tourist bed nights for 2021 had been recorded at 10.7 million by December 15. This has already exceeded the target of 10 million set by the government for the year. The tourism ministry expects the figure to be above 11 million by the end of the year.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 1.2 million tourist arrivals have been recorded for the year by December 15. This is a 148% increase compared to last year, although 23.3% lower compared to 2019.
Earlier this month, the Maldives secured the title for the World’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2021. This is the second consecutive year that the Maldives has won this award.
