MDP opens contesting in Komandoo constituency primary

The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has opened the opportunity to contest in the by-election primary for Komandoo constituency.

MDP revealed the by-election primary is scheduled to be held on December 27 from 1000hrs to 1700hrs in all the islands of the constituency and Male' City. MDP has requested interested candidates to submit the application form to the MDP Secretariat via email before 2100 hours on December 21.

The parliamentary seat for the Komandoo constituency is vacant following the passing of Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed on December 13, 2021. Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed, who had represented Komandoo during the 17th and 19th parliamentary terms, passed away while undergoing treatment for cancer. He is survived by his wife and three children.

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) announced the by-election for the seat will be held on February 5.
