United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Maldives and the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) have conducted a forum on building social resilience in the Maldives.
The forum, named the “High Level Forum on Social Resilience in the Maldives” was held to address the issues highlighted during the Stakeholder Roundtable on Building Social Resilience in the Maldives, which was held at Crossroads Maldives across 4 days. During the forum, a number of critical issues pertinent to religious extremism and violence were discussed, with the aim of identifying the challenges currently faced in addressing such issues and future plans for stakeholder collaboration in accordance to the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Director General of NCTC Brigadier General (Retd.) Zakariyya Mansoor noted the action plan can only succeed with full cooperation from all stakeholders involved.
The forum was attended by representatives from 17 government institutions, 2 civil organisations and 23 individuals.
