Number of goods imported to the Maldives increases by 94%

The value of goods imported to Maldives has increased by 94% in November 2020 compared to the same period last year.

Statistics released by Maldives Customs Service (MCS) show goods worth USD 135 million were imported to the Maldives in November 2020, while goods worth USD 258 million were imported in November 2021.

In addition, the revenue generated by the state also increased with the increase in goods imported to the Maldives. The revenue generated by the state increased by 17% in November this year compared to the same period last year. The state received USD 17.8 million from import exports in 2020, while USD 20.8 million was received in November 2021.

The highest number of goods were imported to the Maldives from China, Oman, India and the UAE. Goods worth USD 39 million were imported from China, goods worth USD 34.2 million from Oman and USD 29.9 million from the UAE.

The top three countries that exported goods from the Maldives include Thailand, Germany and the United Kingdom. As such, 38% of the goods were exported to Thailand, 14% was exported to Germany and 12% of the exports were to the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, the declaration processed in November also increased this year. The total number of declarations processed in November 2020 was 12,434 while the figure stood at 20,524 in November this year.
