HPA places nine islands under monitoring

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed nine islands under monitoring due to the increase of COVID-19 cases.

Statistics from HPA show the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives is increasing, especially in the atolls. As such, nine islands were placed under monitoring on December 12, placing the total number of islands currently under monitoring to 12.

The nine islands placed under monitoring include Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Landhoo, and Miladhoo in Noonu Atoll, as well as Eydhafushi and Dhonfanu in Baa Atoll. The islands also include Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Vilufushi and Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll, and Rathafandhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

In addition, Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Maafaru in Noonu Atoll were placed under monitoring earlier this month. HPA placed Mahibadhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Velidhoo and Miladhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Mulak in Meemu Atoll under monitoring in October and November. The agency also placed five islands in Addu City under monitoring earlier in the year.

HPA statistics show 218 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on December 11, with 188 of the cases being reported in the atolls. The statistics also show 1,933 active cases and a total of 93,064 COVID-19 reported so far in the Maldives.
