President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the decision to extend the period given for the finishing works of flats awarded under the Hiya housing project in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Speaking at a press conference held on August 11, President Solih revealed after careful consideration into the issues raised by recipients of Hiya flats, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to extend the 3-month finishing period until the end of December. The president noted recipients will not be charged any rent during the finishing period. He added the Bank of Maldives (BML) is also issuing a soft loan to assist Hiya recipients in carrying out the finishing works of their flats.
President Solih further revealed some recipients of Hiya flats have relinquished their flats to apply for Vinares flats. He said the government will award the vacant Hiya flats to applicants who fulfilled the requirement to receive the flats but were not selected.
HDC is currently in the process of signing agreements with recipients of Hiya flats. Recipients will only be receiving their keys after signing the agreement with HDC.
Meanwhile, work is still ongoing to establish water and electricity services at the Hiya buildings. HDC stated recipients will be allowed to move into the apartments after the electricity services are established and the elevators are in operation.
Hiya is the largest public housing project in Hulhumale' Phase II, with 6,720 apartments accommodating over 25,000 people.
