Ministry of Education has stated all schools would have the required number of teachers by the start of the new academic year this week.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali said all schools have been provided with the required number of teachers, adding efforts are ongoing to bring in additional teachers. Noting some teachers coming in from abroad would be undergoing quarantine at the start of the academic year, the minister said arrangements have been made for such teachers to conduct online classes until they are released from quarantine.
Speaking further, the minister said digital and hard copies of textbooks would be provided to all students. She said most students have been provided with hard copies, while the students who have not received hard copies would have received digital copies of the textbooks.
The new academic year begins on August 10, with students of all grades and schools scheduled to attend school that day. This would be the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that all students would be attending their school classes physically. During the first two weeks of the new academic year, students of different grades are scheduled to attend school at different times to avoid congestion.
