Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has conducted by-elections for Women's Development Committees (WDCs) of five constituencies.
The by-elections were held in Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, Nolhivaram in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Dhiffushi in Kaafu Atoll, Feridhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll, and Magoodhoo in Noonu Atoll. Magoodhoo has held its second by-election after the two candidates in the first by-election received the same number of votes.
ECM opened the polling stations for voters from 0800hrs to 1500hrs while individuals positive for COVID-19 or under quarantine were allowed to vote from 1400hrs to 1500hrs. ECM is set to announce the temporary results of the by-elections on the evening of August 7 at the elections coordination centre established in Feridhoo.
The WDC by-elections were held for constituencies in which the required number of candidates were not elected during the election held on April 10.
