Mayor of Male' City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated the Male' City Council is preparing to introduce a public transport service in the capital city.
Speaking at a press conference, Mayor Muizzu highlighted the importance of introducing a public transport service, with high-quality buses, in order to ease the traffic problem in Male' City Mayor Muizzu said the council will co-coordinate the public transport service with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation after the service begins. The council has decided to open an opportunity for Male' City residents to give their opinion on introducing school bus services to make it easier for students to go to school, also said Mayor Muizzu.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with introducing an environment-friendly electric minibus service in Male' City. The transport ministry has stated the minibusses will be six metres in length with a capacity of sixteen passengers.
The government is currently making preparations to introduce the bus service, which includes making changes to the roads in Male' City.
