Schools to operate under normal conditions upon reopening

Ministry of Education has stated schools will operate under normal conditions upon reopening for the new academic year.

Schools are set to reopen for the 2021-22 academic year on August 10. The education ministry has stated the length of school sessions will be reverted back to the normal length of sessions practiced before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ministry has instructed schools in the Greater Male’ Region to differentiate the starting time of sessions for different grades during he first two weeks, in order to avoid congestion.

Furthermore, schools have been instructed to ensure social distancing when making classroom arrangements. Schools are required to ensure proper ventilation in classrooms at all times. Students in air-conditioned classrooms must be seated at least 3 feet from each other.

The education ministry further stated students and staff returning from abroad in August are required to take a PCR test within 5-7 days after returning, before attending school. All students and staff eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine have been instructed to complete their dosage before the start of the new academic year.

The first semester of the new academic year will run from August 10 until December 23 this year. The second semester will begin on January 16, 2022 and end on June 30, 2022.
