Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has tested positive for COVID-19.
Ministry of Home Affairs stated Minister Imran got tested on July 28 after displaying symptoms. The ministry said the positive result was confirmed on July 29. Minister Imran has consulted a doctor since the COVID-19 result was confirmed, said the ministry.
PSM News understands the home minister has completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. In addition to Home Minister Imran, Vice President Faisal Naseem and Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail had also earlier tested positive for COVID-19. Both recovered without serious complications.
The number of COVID-19 case numbers in the Maldives has been low for the past month. As a result, the number of deaths and patients requiring hospitalisation or ICU admission have also decreased.
