The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has decided to conduct by-elections for Women's Development Committees (WDCs) of another three constituencies on September 11.
ECM announced by-elections will be held on September 11 for vacant WDC seats of Neykurendhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Maduvvari in Raa Atoll.
By-elections are being held for the three constituencies due to the resignation of one elected member from each constituency. Meanwhile, ECM is also set to conduct by-elections for five constituencies on August 7.
The by-elections are being held for constituencies where the required number of candidates were not elected during the election held on April 10. ECM stated it is currently finalising the voters' list for the August 7 by-election.
The April 10 election was the first time WDC members were elected in the Maldives. A total of 1,670 candidates contested in the WDC election held on April 10.
