Maldives and Bulgaria commit to further strengthening partnership

Maldives and Bulgaria have reiterated commitment to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries.

The discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation took place during a meeting between the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Hristov Stoev. At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, both ministers discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Bulgaria in a wide range of areas.

At the meeting, Minister Shahid reiterated commitment to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries in areas of mutual interest in the bilateral and multilateral fora. He also acknowledged the role played by Bulgaria in the European Union (EU) and highlighted the pivotal role played by the EU in reviving democracy in the Maldives and assured the commitment of the Government of the Maldives to support the partnership in the future.

In a tweet following the meeting, Minister Shahid said he discussed issues of mutual interest such as increasing tourism cooperation, people-to-people contact, and economic interaction between both countries and shared his priorities as the president of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
