Customs records USD 16 million in import/export duty revenue in June

Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has reported the Maldives has received USD 16 million in import/export duty revenue in June. The amount is a 59% increase compared to the import/export duty revenue received in the same month in 2020, stated MCS.

The statistics show the Maldives imported goods worth USD 194 million in June 2021, which is an increase of 44% compared to the goods worth USD 136 million imported in June 2020. In June 2021, the Maldives imported mechanical and electrical appliances worth USD 38 million, fuel worth USD 36 million, and food items worth USD 35 million. Around 17% of the goods were imported from Oman, while 13% were imported from China, and 12% were imported from Singapore.

Furthermore, the statistics also show an increase in exports in June this year compared to the same month last year. Maldives exported goods worth USD 15 million in June 2021, which is an increase of 3% compared to the goods worth USD 14 million exported in May 2020. The majority of exports were frozen fish products, including frozen skipjack tuna or stripe-bellied bonitos worth USD 3.9 million, and preserved or prepared skipjack tuna worth USD 2.2 million.

Around 30% of products from the Maldives were exported to Thailand, while 16% were exported to Japan.
