Kumundhoo Island Council has expressed the residents of the island are grateful for the numerous developmental projects conducted by the government.
In a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, councillors discussed relevant issues and raised their concerns regarding ongoing developmental projects and other services and needs of the residents. The island has seen immeasurable development within the two years of the administration, compared to many previous years, noted the councillors.
Some of the major concerns raised by the council include difficulties in using and expansion of the harbour, improving healthcare, education, schooling, social welfare, and business sector development. Meanwhile, members of the Women's Development Committee emphasised the need for a resident gynaecologist on the island and discussed ways to seek opportunities to promote and market crops harvested by local women.
Speaking on the need for a proper harbour in Kumundhoo, President Solih agreed to conduct further discussions with relevant government bodies to resolve the matter. The president addressed the concerns raised by the council regarding the expansion of the health centre and the upgrade of the school. The government plans to establish a police outpost in Kumundhoo, also stated the president.
Moreover, the president and First Lady Fazna Ahmed visited the health centre and the school on Kumundhoo. In an effort to expand the school in Kumundhoo, the construction of 12 additional classrooms had been planned and is currently at the pre-tendering process; while the installation of the water network system and the Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant service is also underway.
The visit to Kumundhoo is the second stop of a three-island trip to the north of the country. The president initially visited Kulhudhuffushi City before arriving in Kumdhoo and visited Hanimaadhoo Island as the last leg of the trip.
