President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially launched the road development project in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.
The president launched the project as part of his three-day visit to islands of the north of Maldives. The president was accompanied at the ceremony by Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim.
As part of the project, 20 roads in Hanimaadhoo will be constructed with asphalt and developed to modern standards.
Further, an area of 16,518 square metres of sidewalks, an area of 44,000 square metres of the road will be developed as part of the project, along with road markings in an area of 19, 679 square metres.
MTCC plans to conclude the project handed over to the company in May 2019, by December 2021.
Hanimaadhoo has a population of about 2,100.
