Government implements Microsoft Windows 365 service

Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology has signed an agreement with Microsoft to implement the Windows 365 service in the public sector.

The three-year agreement will allow all 20,000 public sector employees to access a Windows 10 desktop from the cloud and work and collaborate remotely by using the newly introduced Windows 365 service.

Speaking at the virtual agreement signing ceremony, Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology Aminath Shauna said digital infrastructure is the backbone upon which public sector efficiency rests and that the government must reinvent itself to build a public sector that is fit for the future. She said the digital transformation will also reduce the country's carbon emissions, since citizens will spend less time on motorbikes, in cars, and in boats travelling to work.

Furthermore, Minister Shauna said the government's aim is to empower public sector employees with the latest cloud technologies to manage their work, connect with their team, and deliver on their targets in a secure and seamless environment across the various agencies and across the islands.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Microsoft' General Manager for Southeast Asia Sook Hoon Cheah said Microsoft looks forward to supporting the Government of the Maldives in its digital transformation journey by enabling government employees to stay connected remotely and improving the citizen experience of the government. Maldivian government is better able to engage and connect with its citizens, collaborate both internally and externally, and enhance services that let them reach transparency and sustainability goals through the Windows 365 service, has stated the Microsoft.
