President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Hussain Niyazy as the Auditor General in accordance with Article 210 of the constitution. Hussain Niyazy took the oath of office before the Supreme Court Justice Mahaz Ali Zahir at a special ceremony held at the President's Office.
Hussain Niyazy is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the UK since 2008 and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Bangalore, India. He also filled several posts in the Auditor General's Office including the post of Assistant Auditor General, Audit Manager, and Assistant Auditor.
Niyazy is currently a council member of the Maldives Institute of Chartered Accountants. Niyazy is also the Chairperson of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives' Admission and Licensing Committee, among other positions in the profession.
The president nominated Niyazi as the Auditor General following the resignation of Hassan Ziyath from the position. Ziyath submitted his resignation on May 13 after his name was revealed in the list of suspected beneficiaries in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
