Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi has attended the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women.
The 8th session of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women began on July 8 and focused on maintaining the gains of gender equality and empowering women in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath.
Speaking at the conference, the gender minister highlighted the work conducted by the Government of the Maldives to promote gender equality and protect the rights of women. In her speech, she noted the government's work to strengthen the role of women in business and the economy.
Furthermore, Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi detailed the programme on domestic violence conducted by the gender ministry in association with the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), which aims to raise awareness on creating a safer environment for victims of domestic violence.
She also joined some sideline events including the second extraordinary session of the ministerial council of the Organisation for the Development of Women.
OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organisation consisting of 57 member states, and its purpose is to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony.
