Parliament approves appointment of Niyazi as Auditor General

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Hussain Niyazi as the Auditor General of the Maldives.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Niyazi as the Auditor General following the resignation of Hassan Ziyath from the position last month. The appointment of Niyazi as the Auditor General was approved by the parliament on July 8 with votes from 63 parliamentarians.

As one of the most senior chartered accountants of the Maldives, Niyazi has worked at the Auditor General's Office for over 15 years. He is currently serving as the Assistant Auditor General.

Former Auditor General Ziyath submitted his resignation on May 13 after his name was revealed in the list of suspected beneficiaries in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
