Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has decided to appeal the decision by the Criminal Court of the Maldives to release 3 suspects who had been arrested in anti-terrorism operations conducted by Maldives Police Service (MPS), following the May 6 terror attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
On July 7, Criminal Court ordered to release three individuals who had been arrested by the police due to links with terrorism and religious extremism. PGO said the ruling, which was issued by Criminal Court Judge Hassan Saeed, will be appealed at the High Court of the Maldives.
Meanwhile, Judge Hassan Saeed is under investigation by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in relation to some of the rulings issued by him. As such, Judge Saeed is under investigation for his decision to release the passport of former Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed, who has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and harassment.
