Gov't hires contractor to complete Vaadhoo mosque project

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has contracted Haiman Construction Private Limited to complete the construction of a mosque in Vaadhoo, Raa Atoll. The Islamic ministry stated Haiman Construction is expected to complete the project within six months at a cost of 279,000 US dollars.

The ministry initially hired Escon Builders Private Limited to construct the mosque in 2019 and tasked the company with completing the project within five months at a cost of 290 thousand US dollars. However, the Islamic ministry terminated the contract after the original contractor failed to complete the project.

The Government of the Maldives has hired contractors to build nine mosques in various parts of the country. Although some mosques have been completed and opened for the public, other projects have stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government has terminated the contracts with some of the companies after the projects stalled and hired other companies to resume construction.
