Foreign Minister presents exequaturs to honorary consuls of Hungary and Indonesia

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has presented exequaturs to the newly appointed honorary consuls of Hungary and Indonesia in the Maldives.

During separate ceremonies held on July 5, Minister Shahid presented exequaturs to Honorary Consul of Indonesia, Jaufar Easa Adam, and the Honorary Consul of Hungary, Mohamed Ali Janah. During the two meetings, Minister Shahid emphasised on the role of honorary consuls in fostering closer bilateral ties between the Maldives and the respective countries.

Honorary consuls are appointed by the governments of the respective countries to oversee the consular services provided to its citizens in the host country. Honorary consuls are usually citizens of the host country. However, the government of the host country plays no role in the appointment of the honorary consuls.
