MPL to prioritise developing ports

CEO Shahid Ali has revealed the current highest priority of the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is to develop its ports across the country. He made the statement in a video message on Twitter following the transfer of MPL's transport services to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

In his message, Shahid said MPL has formulated plans to develop the ports currently in operation across various parts of the country. He said the cease of transport services allows to focus on other parts of MPL's mandate and further improve and expand the services provided at the ports.

Furthermore, Shahid said MPL is also working on the project to transfer the Male' Commercial Harbour to Gulhifalhu, which also involves upgrading the current technologies used at the port. The transfer of the port is a high priority of MPL, as well as the project to develop the Thinadhoo Regional Port, he said.

MPL had provided transport services for a total of three million passengers in the past five years. During the period, the port authority had also introduced numerous innovations to the transport services in the Maldives.
