The Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts has endorsed Hussain Niyazi to be appointed as the Auditor General.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Niyazi as the Auditor General following the resignation of Hassan Ziyath from the position last month. The endorsement of Niyazi as the Auditor General was passed by the parliamentary committee unanimously on July 4.
As one of the most senior chartered accountants of the Maldives, Niyazi has worked at the Auditor General's Office for over 15 years. He is currently serving as the Assistant Auditor General.
Former Auditor General Ziyath submitted his resignation on May 13 after his name was revealed in the list of suspected beneficiaries in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
