President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Hussain Niyazi for the position of Auditor General.
The president nominated Niyazi as the Auditor General following the resignation of Hassan Ziyath from the position last month. The nomination has now been accepted by the Parliament of the Maldives and forwarded to the Government Oversight Committee for review.
As one of the most senior chartered accountants of the Maldives, Niyazi has worked at the Auditor General's Office for over 15 years.
Ziyath submitted his resignation on May 13 after his name was revealed in the list of suspected beneficiaries in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
