Male' City Council plans to establish WiFi, strengthen CCTV

Mayor of Male' City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed plans to establish WiFi coverage and strengthen the surveillance system in Male' City.

At a press conference, Mayor Muizzu said the projects are part of the Male' City Council's Strategic Action Plan. Muizzu said the council has discussed the WiFi project with telecommunications companies Dhiraagu and Ooredoo, and that the companies will be submitting their proposals within a week. The council plans to provide free access to WiFi at public spaces, city centres, and public streets, he added.

Furthermore, Mayor Muizzu detailed plans to strengthen the current surveillance system in the city as part of the Digital Male' project. Muizzu said teams are now conducting technical surveys to strengthen surveillance at mosques due to the recent disturbances. He said the Strategic Action Plan includes establishing free WiFi access in Villimale' and Hulhumale' as well.

The mayor also announced the plan to lease 450 parking spots, until a permanent solution is found to solve the parking issues in the capital city. He said the council will open opportunities for individuals to reserve the temporary parking spots next week. He added that a survey has found 173 vehicles left abandoned in various parts of the city and that authorities are now working to tow the vehicles.
