President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended the duration of the previously announced government office closure, from June 29 to July 3, 2021.
In a statement, the President's Office directed all government employees in the Greater Male' Region to keep working from home as necessary and provide services online. The President's Office also stated employees who are required to go to their offices need permission from a minister or head of an office or institution and need to adhere to all the guidelines issued by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
President Solih initially directed the closure of all government offices in the Greater Male' Region on May 5, as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of COVID-19. The president has been extending the directive each week, due to the spike in COVID-19 cases that began in May. In his directive, President Solih reiterated the importance of adhering to the instructions of the HPA to control the spread of the coronavirus.
Regardless of the decision to close government offices, the period would not be declared government holidays.
