Commissioner of Police summoned for parliament inquiry into May 6 attack

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services has summoned Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed for the parliamentary inquiry related to the May 6 terror attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

The committee summoned the police commissioner to a closed-door meeting to question him on the intelligence-related work of the national security services. PSM News has received information that the committee has also decided to summon police officers individually, including five senior officers.

Meanwhile, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has released a press statement highlighting that the Minister of Defence is responsible for answering to the president and the parliament on matters concerning the work of the defence force. MNDF stated summoning military officers individually for questioning is against the chain-of-command hierarchy and the military's policies, since it is illegal to divulge military information to those outside the force.

PSM News has received information that Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamal, and Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef has received summons from the parliamentary committee.

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services is investigating the leak of information related to Speaker Nasheed's security details.
