National airline suspends flights to Dhaka for a second time

The national airline, Maldivian, has suspended its flights to Dhaka, Bangladesh, for a second time.

Maldivian stated its flights to Dhaka have been cancelled effective on June 4 until further notice. The airline stated the decision was made as a result of the suspension of passenger flights between the Maldives and Bangladesh, which is part of the efforts of the Government of Bangladesh to reduce the rising COVID-19 cases in the country. Furthermore, Maldivian has rescheduled its flights on June 4 to depart from the Maldives on June 3.

Dhaka was among the first destinations Maldivian initially commenced operation of international flights after the reopening of the Maldivian borders in July 2020. Maldivian resumed operations to Dhaka during August last year.

However, all flights to Dhaka were suspended in April this year due to the measures imposed by the Bangladesh government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country. After the brief suspension, Maldivian resumed flights again in May this year.
