Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of the harbour construction project in Meedhoo, Addu City.
MTCC was contracted to design and construct the Meedhoo harbour on June 23, 2019 for a cost of USD 2.4 million. MTCC stated the scope of the project included dredging and excavation operations, and channel dredging operations. The state-owned company was also tasked with the construction of a 621 metre quay wall, 3,125 square metres of harbor pavements, a ramp, and the installation of navigation lights, harbour lights, mooring hooks, and bollards.
Furthermore, MTCC stated the harbour in Meedhoo has a unique design compared to their other harbours, and was constructed at a higher elevation to prevent flooding from high tides.
MTCC is also conducting other projects in Addu City, including the development of coastal protection in Meedhoo, development of the harbour in Hulhudhoo, as well as road and harbour development in Hulhumeedhoo. The projects are estimated to cost around USD 15 million.
