Senior officials of the Maldives and Bangladesh military have held discussions on providing training opportunities for Maldivian military personnel. The discussions took place during the courtesy call on Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi by the visiting Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General Aziz Ahmed.
At the meeting held at the headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), discussions focused on boosting the close ties of defence cooperation between the Maldives and Bangladesh. The discussions focused on the areas of capacity-building in disaster relief operations and anti-human trafficking efforts, increasing allotments for Maldivian doctors at the Armed Forces Medical College in Dhaka and training opportunities for Maldivian military personnel.
During the meeting, Minister Mariya conveyed warm greetings and gratitude on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the Government of Bangladesh for the generous assistance rendered to the Maldives in times of need, ranging from the 2004 tsunami to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
General Aziz also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Solih, the government and people of the Maldives on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh.
General Aziz arrived on an official visit to the Maldives on June 2. The visit will be concluded on June 6.
