The Government of Russia has affirmed commitment to facilitate the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines to the Maldives. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, during a telephone conversation held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid on May 27.
During the call, the two ministers discussed the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic and briefed on the measures taken by the respective governments to contain the spread of the virus and to deal with the unprecedented global health emergency. The ministers also discussed ways to overcome the economic and financial consequences of the virus.
Foreign Minister Lavrov reassured the Russian government’s commitment to expedite the procurement of vaccines from Russia to the Maldives and continue working with the Government of the Maldives to further enhance the existing cooperation between the two countries.
Both ministers further stressed the need for joint efforts in responding to COVID-19 and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and collaboration in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern.
