Second round of LCE, WDCE held for 12 constituencies

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has conducted the second round of the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE) for 12 constituencies.

ECM held a second round of elections for constituencies where results were tied or serious issues were raised during the April 10 election. Voting was carried out for the second round on May 1, at 12 polling stations in the atolls and 10 polling stations in Male’. The second round was contested by a total of 24 candidates.

Re-elections were held for the local councils of Gaadhiffushi in Thaa Atoll and Maavah in Laamu Atoll due to tied results. Meanwhile, re-elections for the local councils of Thakandhoo in Haa Alif Atoll, Kihaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Raiymandhoo in Meemu Atoll and Dharanboodhoo in Faafu Atoll due to complaints raised in the first round of the election.

Re-elections for the Women's Development Committee were held in Uligamu in Haa Alif Atoll, Magoodhoo in Noonu Atoll, Maakurathu in Raa Atoll, Kendhoo in Baa Atoll, Fulidhoo in Vaavu Atoll and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll. All six constituencies had tied results in the first round of the election.
