Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) has revealed a foreign investigator has been brought to the Maldives to probe into the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan in 2014.
On August 8, which marked the six-year anniversary of Rilwan’s disappearance, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that a foreign investigator will be brought to work with DDCom on the case, as per the request of Rilwan’s family. DDCom confirmed the foreign investigator has been brought for the investigation, but declined to provide any further information.
Ahmed Rilwan, who was working as a journalist for Minivan News, has been missing since August 8, 2014. The findings of DDCom into the case, which were released last year, indicate he was abducted and murdered. However, no charges have been pressed due to the lack of sufficient credible evidence.
In a statement released last August, DDCom requested the public to present any credible information on Rilwan’s disappearance. The commission pledged to offer anonymity and security to anyone who presents information.
DDCom stated the families still need to be ensured of justice which will be solace to the grieving family. The commission assured it is working to provide justice to Rilwan and families of all individuals who have disappeared or been murdered.
