2022 will be a golden year for Maldivian tourism: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated 2022 will be a golden year for the Maldivian tourism industry.

Speaking to PSM News, Tourism Minister Mausoom said several activities are being planned for 2022, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldivian tourism industry. The minister said special programmes have been planned to mark the occasion, adding the details of the programmes are under discussion.

Noting the programmes will be spread out across the whole country, the minister said the special programmes will ensure a significant boost in tourism revenue for the Maldives. He expressed 2022 will be a golden year for the industry.

Tourism started in the Maldives on October 3, 1972. Over the years, the Maldives has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with multiple world-renowned brands of resorts operating in the country. Local tourism is also on the rise, with the opening of several guesthouses across the country.
