Lily Group has donated 100,000 face masks for school children to assist the efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
The masks were donated by Lily Enterprises and Lily Shipping and Trading, which are operated under the Lily Group of Companies. Ministry of Education thanked the two companies for the donation, adding it shows the importance shown towards the protection of children. The education ministry has not disclosed the details on how the masks would be distributed.
Meanwhile, on September 3, the education ministry extended the closure of schools in Greater Male’ Region for additional two weeks due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the capital. Although students of grades 11 and 12 continue to attend the classes to prepare for their exams, lessons for all other grades are conducted online.
On July 1, the administration decided to reopen schools in islands without active COVID-19 cases after keeping it closed for over three months. Students of Grades 9 to 12 in Male' City also commenced studies on July 1 and the administration planned to resume classes for grades 7 to 8 by mid-August. However, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, the education ministry closed the schools again.
