Seven members have been appointed to the Procurement Policy Board, established to formulate the procurement policies and regulations of the government.
The members appointed to the Procurement Policy Board are Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, State Minister of Finance Ahmed Shareef, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Environment Ajwad Musthafa, Consultant at Ministry of Economic Development Shuhad Ibrahim, State Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Shifaz Ali, Ibrahim Naeem from the Auditor General’s Office and Mohamed Adil from the private sector.
The operational regulations of the Procurement Policy Board states board members are appointed to a term of 3 years, after which at least half of the board must be changed. The chairperson of the board is appointed by the president and the vice chairperson is appointed by the finance minister.
The regulations state board meetings must be held at least once a month. The board has the authority to plan and implement and the state procurement system in accordance to the Public Finance Regulations. The board also has the authority to draft any bills and regulations needed to strengthen the state procurement system.
The Procurement Policy Board was formed with the objective of setting the state procurement policies, monitor compliance to Public Finance Regulations and coordinate the actions to be taken in relation to procurement. The board is also tasked with increasing the technical capacity of procurement officers and facilitate a transparent and competitive environment for bidders.
