Discussions have been held between the Maldives and Sri Lanka on enhancing cooperation in reviving the tourism sector of both countries, which have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The discussion was held between the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razak and Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka Prasanna Ranatunga. During the meeting, discussions were held on border openings and safety measures imposed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Further discussions were held on possible projects that can be undertaken by the two countries together to encourage tourists.
Following the meeting, High Commissioner Omar Abdul Razak said the meeting held with Tourism Minister Ranatunga was an encouraging meeting, adding he was uplifted by the minister’s hopeful outlook on tourism recovery.
In addition, the high commissioner also met with the State Minister of Finance, Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms of Sri Lanka, Ajith Nivard Cabraal to discuss the economic recovery of the two countries following the COVID-19 pandemic. The high commissioner said the meeting was constructive and mutually informative, adding insights were gained on managing matters ahead.
