Nomination for Singapore Ambassador passed by Parliament

Parliament of Maldives has approved Chief of Protocol at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Shaheeb to be appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore.

The nomination was reviewed and approved by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations. The nomination was subsequently passed by the parliament with votes from 58 parliamentarians.

Shaheeb is a career diplomat who has been serving in the foreign ministry since 1991. The foreign ministry revealed ambassadors appointed to foreign countries are now selected among career diplomats rather than political appointees.
