MPS fines an individual who violated quarantine orders

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has imposed a USD 162 fine on an individual who violated operating standards of isolation and quarantine facilities.

MPS stated a 39- year old male who was asked to home quarantine in Guraidhoo, Kaafu atoll has been fined for violating orders. This is the first time a fine was imposed under the new amendment to the regulations on isolation and quarantine.

The amendment states people who violate isolation orders will be subjected to a fine of USD 160 and USD 220 US dollars for the first and second time respectively. The amendment states every subsequent violation will result in a fine of 320 US dollars. The regulation further mandates MPS to implement the regulation and penalize individuals when necessary.

MPS has advised all citizens to follow the orders of health authorities in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
