Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated patriotism is the most basic quality which must be possessed by every police officer serving the nation.
Speaking at a ceremony held to mark the 87th anniversary of the establishment of police services in the Maldives, Home Minister Imran said every human society is based on fundamental beliefs and values which must be upheld. Noting Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) are tasked with taking the necessary measures to protect these beliefs and values, the minister said the role of these two institutions is crucial to maintaining the country’s independence and sovereignty. He added patriotism is the most basic quality which must be possessed by a police officer in order to fulfill his or her responsibility to the nation.
During the ceremony, officers who have served MPS for over 20 years and officers who have retired from the institution after serving the institution for a long period of time were given a special medal of recognition. In this regard, 47 officers who served MPS for over 20 years, 21 officers who have served the institution for over 25 years and 3 officers who have retired from service were awarded the medal of recognition.
