Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated street violence and other violent crimes have been brought under control within the past 17 months, with the help of dedicated efforts by Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the new police station in Hulhumale’, Home Minister Imran said the country is proud of the work done by MPS, especially across the last 17 months. In this regard, the minister noted street violence and other street crimes have been brought under control over the past 17 months, thanks to the dedicated efforts of MPS. However, he said there are several more issues which need to be resolved in order to establish peace and stability in the society.
The home minister further stated the government is committed to increasing the capacity of MPS by establishing additional resources for training and development of its services. He expressed hope the new police station established in Hulhumale’ will help to widen the role of MPS in maintaining peace and order in the city. He also highlighted the need for careful planning of police operations in Hulhumale’, as its population will continue increasing in the coming years.
