Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated 750 rooms across 14 different isolation facilities are currently in use.
Speaking at a press conference, Isolation Manager of HEOC Mohamed Hamzath said the centre is working on arranging enough isolation facilities to cope with the surge in COVID-19 cases. In this regard, Hamzath said slots are allocated in different isolation facilities established across the country as well as medical facilities. He noted 750 rooms across 14 different facilities are currently in use, while another 252 beds are available at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.
Hamzath added the bed capacity will increase with the establishment of the triage facility in Thaajuddeen School. He said the triage facility will help to isolate patients who cannot be transferred to isolation facilities immediately.
Hamzath highlighted the difficulties faced in transferring individuals to isolation facilities, such as being unable to reach them through phone and refusal of some individuals to be isolated before the test results of their family members are available. He noted HEOC has been keeping track of individuals undergoing home isolation through the app, Haalu Belun. He said those who are not registered in the app or cannot provide information through the app regularly are contacted by phone.
HEOC has instructed individuals undergoing home isolation to contact the hotline 1676 in case of any emergency.
