President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the Maldives has been officially readmitted to the Commonwealth Games.
In a tweet posted on August 28, President Solih revealed he was informed by the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation Dame Louise Martin that the resolution to readmit the Maldives to the Commonwealth Games has been approved. In his tweet, the president thanked all member countries that supported the resolution.
Maldives last contested in the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Maldives was not able to participate in the last edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2018, after the country left Commonwealth in October 2016.
Maldives rejoined Commonwealth on February 1, 2020. Rejoining Commonwealth was one of the electoral pledges of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
