Border control system established in Maafaru Airport

Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology has revealed the installation of the border control system in Maafaru International Airport has been completed.

The border control system in Maafaru Airport was established by National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT). The communication ministry revealed installation of the border control system in Maafaru Airport was completed on August 19.

The border control system helps to store and maintain the information of all individuals who cross Maldivian borders, and to identify those entering the country illegally. The communication ministry said the establishment of the border control system in Maafaru Airport completes the installation of border control systems in all international airports and seaports in the country.

Maafaru International Airport was developed was opened for scheduled flights on January 1, 2020. The airport was built from a grant of USD 60 million provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The airport has a 2,200-metre-long and a 40-metre wide runway and is designed to handle the largest aircraft in operation including the Airbus A380 super jumbo jets.
