Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has criticised Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed over failure to formulate the regulations under the Fisheries Act.
Speaking at the parliament, Nasheed said the parliament has received the report prepared by committee which indicates the committee repeatedly asked Minister Zaha to formulate the regulations. Speaker Nasheed said the ministry had not published the regulations on gazette till date, adding the minister has failed to fulfill her legal responsibilities.
The new Fisheries Act was ratified on September 16 last year with major revisions. The Act states the ministry must formulate all regulations related to the Act within a period of 6 months from the date of ratification.
