School sessions to commence for grades 11 and 12

Ministry of Education has announced its decision to recommence face to face sessions for grades 11 and 12.

The ministry said the decision was made upon consultation with stakeholders, as students begin preparations for their final examinations to be held in October and November. Final examinations for grades 11 and 12 used to be held in May and June, before the COVID-19 pandemic forced changes to the schedule.

The ministry said the classes will resume on September 3, and that online classes will continue until face to face classes resume. The ministry added the sessions will include 35-minute periods instead of the regular 45 minute periods.

The ministry restarted schools for grades 9 and above on July 1, after keeping the schools closed for over three months, following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ministry later decided to close schools in the Greater Male’ Region again due to a surge of cases in the capital.
